BrightLocal rank tracker alternative
BrightLocal Track opens at $39 a month, Maprank Solo at $19, and the two are barely the same species: BrightLocal is a local SEO suite priced per location, Maprank is a dedicated geo-grid tracker priced per scan. Which one's right depends almost entirely on how many locations you'll be tracking by next year — so this page mostly does math, all of it from published prices, dated.
BrightLocal vs geo grid tool
| Maprank | BrightLocal | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | A dedicated geo-grid rank tracker with white-label reporting | An all-in-one local SEO suite: rank tracking, audits, citations, reviews |
| Pricing model | Per scan: 1 credit = 1 grid point, businesses unlimited | Per location: Track $39/mo, Manage $49/mo, Grow $59/mo, each for one location |
| One location | $19/mo (Solo, 4,500 credits) | $39/mo (Track) |
| Ten locations | Still one plan — credits are the only meter | Priced per location on their published plans |
| Geo-grid keywords | No keyword caps — each scan costs its grid points in credits | Local Search Grid: 5-keyword base, expandable to 30 with add-ons |
| Grid customization | Any odd grid to 13×13, any spacing in miles, defaults per business | Configured within Local Search Grid's options |
| White label | Every plan: logo, colour, hide-branding, reports on your own domain | Reporting tools available; own-domain report hosting not listed on their published plans |
| Team seats | Unlimited from the Agency plan ($39/mo) | Not listed on their published pricing |
| Annual discount | 20% off | About 26% off — the deeper discount: their win |
| Free trial | 500 credits, no card, no clock — spend them at your pace | Free trial available; see their site for current terms |

Per-location pricing is fair when every location uses the whole suite. It punishes the agency that mainly needs rank tracking: every new client is a new subscription. Maprank meters the one thing that costs anything — scanning — and makes everything else unlimited.
Grid tracking and client-ready reports are the job, your roster is growing, and you want white label and your own report domain without a tier upgrade.
You want citations, audits, review management and tracking on one bill for a handful of locations. A good suite is a good suite — we'd rather say so than pretend otherwise.
Plenty of agencies keep a suite for the checklist work and use Maprank for the tracking clients actually see. 500 free credits, no card, makes the trial cost nothing but an afternoon.
The worked example
At one location BrightLocal Track is $39 and Maprank Solo is $19, and the choice is about scope: BrightLocal Track bundles audits, citations and review monitoring alongside a keyword-capped grid; Maprank spends its $19 on tracking alone — 4,500 credits, no keyword caps, white label and your own report domain included.
The meters cross the moment the roster grows. Fifteen clients on per-location pricing is 15 × $39 = $585 a monthon BrightLocal's published Track plan — before grid keyword add-ons past each location's base five. The same fifteen clients scanning three keywords monthly at 7×7 is 2,205 credits on Maprank: still the $19 plan, with roughly half the allowance left for deeper audits and prospect scans. The suite price buys real tools; the question an agency has to answer honestly is how many of them it uses at all fifteen locations — because it pays for the full bundle at every one.
There's also a quieter structural difference. Keyword caps make you ration what you measure — five grid keywords per location forces a choice between the searches that matter. A credit meter rations how often you measure instead, which is the right variable to economize: scan the keywords that pay, exactly as often as the client relationship needs.
Our honest advice
If BrightLocal is working for you, ripping it out to save on tracking is probably bad advice, and we'd rather not give it. The move that actually makes sense is an audit: list what your team opened in the suite last month, per location. If the answer is "mostly the rank reports", you're paying per-location suite prices for a tracking habit — that's the case where a dedicated tracker changes the bill. If the answer is citations, audits and reviews across the board, you're a suite customer; keep the suite and maybe add a grid tool only for the client-facing maps.
For the audit month, the side-by-side pieces are here: the geo grid method, the white-label reporting your clients would see, and — if a dedicated tracker wins the audit — how we stack against the other specialist, Local Falcon, plus the full field ranked.
Yes — BrightLocal's Local Search Grid maps local rankings on a geo-grid, included in their plans with a 5-keyword base that's expandable to 30 with add-ons (per their published pricing, August 2026). The structural difference is the meter: BrightLocal prices per location with keyword caps, while Maprank prices per grid point scanned — 1 credit each — with unlimited businesses and no keyword caps.
At one location Maprank is half the price: BrightLocal Track is $39 a month for one location, Maprank Solo is $19 for unlimited businesses. The gap opens with the roster — BrightLocal's published pricing is per location, so ten locations multiply the bill, while on Maprank ten businesses share one plan and only scans spend credits. If you also need BrightLocal's audits, citations and review tools, you're comparing a suite to a dedicated tool, and the suite can still be the right buy.
Only for the job Maprank does: geo-grid rank tracking and white-label client reporting of it. BrightLocal also does citation building, audits and review management — Maprank deliberately doesn't. Plenty of agencies run Maprank for tracking alongside other tools for the rest; one tool, one job, done properly is the design.
There isn't a per-plan keyword cap. Scans are the meter: each scan of a keyword across a grid costs its point count in credits — 49 for a 7×7 — so you decide how many keywords deserve grid coverage, client by client, month by month.
There's nothing to migrate — add each business by name, no Google account connection, and your first scans set the new baseline. Maprank bills monthly and cancels anytime, and the 500-credit no-card trial is enough to scan a real roster once before you decide.
On BrightLocal's published per-location pricing, 15 locations on Track is 15 × $39 = $585 a month before add-ons. On Maprank, 15 clients scanning three keywords monthly at 7×7 is 2,205 credits — inside the $19 Solo plan, or $39 on Agency if the whole team needs seats. The suite bundles more tools for that money; whether they're tools you use is the whole decision.
One month, both tools, same clients — then let last month's usage decide. 500 free credits, no card.
